This year (2010) we held our 8th Festival of Gymnastics and for us we took it to the next level by developing it into a two day event. Once again we held it in Dewsbury Sports Centre which proved a great venue.
Day 1 Saturday 30th January
We held our first ever Team Competition for Acrobatic Gymnastics and Tumbling. We had four teams for the Acro comp from East Kilbride, Loughborough, Wakefield and Leeds each bringing gymnasts from Level 2 through to 11-16 and Junior. It was a great comp from start to finish with the team from Wakefield picking up the gold medal and trophy, Loughborough coming second and East Kilbride coming third.
The Tumbling comp had teams from Wakefield, Warrington and Leeds and again Wakefield was the winning team with Warrington second and Leeds third. Again a great event with some spectacular tumbling.
Although we started small we hope next year this event will grow so watch out for same time same place 2011!

Day 2 Sunday 31st January
A very early start for our Festival with teams coming from all over England, Scotland and Ireland. Once again we had to split it into two festivals just to be able to get everyone in and with 1,000 spectators and 780 gymnasts it was a bit of a squeeze but everyone had a great view.
I don’t know how the coaches do it but the displays just get better and better and this year saw some really spectacular routines with some amazing costumes and great use of props, including a tank!
In the morning the awards for Best Costume went to Merseyside Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, Best Small Display went to Holt Park Leisure Centre Recreational Acrobatics Group, and Best Large Display went to Loughborough Acrobatics.
In the afternoon the awards for Best Costume went to Spartac Gymnastics, Best Choreography went to EJB Gymnastics and the Best Display went to Scott Hall Gymnastics. All the gymnasts received a participation medal.
Above all everyone seemed to have a great time as did we, although we were exhausted at the end of it all!
.
The Festival is organised and run by the Management Committee of the Club who are all parents of gymnasts and are all volunteers with full time jobs. To put on an ever expanding event like this costs time and money and we would like to thank all our volunteers over the weekend who helped make it a really great time.
